a city on the moon
A Poem By: Ishrat Chahal
The truth is that
there is no universal truth
We wander
and reach and pull
Trying to have it all
Live up to the bar
even though
we come from two different worlds
I from a city on the moon
You from the throes of intergalactic space;
two worlds that will never meet.
And yet we ebb and we flow
around each other,
pushing
on tippy toes —
trying to measure ourselves
as more
important
more beautiful
most worthy;
any kind of recognition —
and that, I suppose, will be the only
thing that our worlds will ever have in common
